Marcel Meili, Markus Peter
The architects’ firm of Marcel Meili, Markus Peter was established in Zurich in 1987 and awarded most of its projects by way of national as well as international competitions. In addition to buildings, the oeuvre also comprises a series of more experimental works such as bridges, movable information boxes, stage settings, and even a film. The works are extensively documented in the book Marcel Meili-Markus Peter 1987 - 2008 in English, too (Verlag Scheidegger und Spiess).
To us, designing was never a mere application of a standard of knowledge but the study of a given topic, for instance also in a programme. The creative interpretation of a programme is a central motivation driving our architectural research and studies. As an emphasis of our design research, the relationships between complex bearing structures and space as well as an exploration of landscapes have emerged.
A joint team and co-operation with other architects has always been part of our efforts to achieve true architectural quality under complex pre-conditions. Without historicizing, our works always draw from a great interest in the history of the discipline and the town.
Since the turn of the millennium, we have also and increasingly operated in other European countries. In 2007, we even established an office in Munich for a large city-centre project. Together, about 50 architects, 20 of them in Munich, are currently working at our offices.
